A Scripture and a Prayer: “Nothing to Fear”

“The Lord is on my side; I will not fear. What can man do to me?” (Psalm 118:6)

Prayer:

Lord, while we are told not to fear, fear is a reality in all our lives, and it is a killer of the faith You desire for us to have in You, as it paralyzes our potential and keeps us from launching out into the fullness of Your will. But You are always with us, and therefore we need not fear as You said in Your word. “Fear not, for I am with you; be not dismayed, for I am your God; I will strengthen you, I will help you, I will uphold you with my righteous right hand.” And Jesus, Your promise is that You are with us always, even to the end of this age. Therefore, help us to know and experience Your constant presence especially when we begin to fear what the future may hold. And this I ask in Your precious name, Lord Jesus. AMEN

A Scripture and a Prayer: “Give Thanks for His Unfailing Love”

“Satisfy us in the morning with your unfailing love, that we may sing for joy and be glad all our days.” (Psalm 90:14)

Prayer:

Lord, as I think about thanking You for Your unfailing love, a Don Moen song comes to mind, “Give Thanks With A Grateful Heart.” May this song be our prayer today.

“Give Thanks With A Grateful Heart – Give Thanks To The Holy One

Give Thanks Because He Has Given – Jesus Christ His Son.

And Now Let The Weak Say I Am Strong – Let The Poor Say I Am Rich

Because Of What The Lord – Has Done For Us. – Give Thanks”

A Scripture and a Prayer: “Walk in the Spirit”

“Walk in the Spirit, and you shall not fulfill the lust of the flesh.” (Galatians 5:16)

Prayer:

Jesus, when we came to faith in You, You gave to us Your Spirit, breathing upon us saying, “Receive the Holy Spirit.” we are weak, and our fleshly nature of sin seems to be so prevalent, You have given us a way to counter our flesh and the lusts of this world through this wonderful gift of the Holy Spirit. Therefore, I pray and ask for You to help give us the power to walk in Your will and ways through the power of the Holy Spirit within, so that we can walk, no longer according to our flesh, but rather in the newness of the life You provide. And this I ask in Your name Lord Jesus. AMEN

A Scripture and a Prayer: “The Right Connection”

I will lift up my eyes to the hills–from whence comes my help? My help comes from the Lord, Who made heaven and earth.” (Psalm 121:1-2)

Prayer:

Lord, thank you for being our ever-present help in times of trouble. Thank you for the wonderful assurance we have to approach Your throne of grace to receive mercy and find grace to help our in my time of need. Therefore, we look to You who has created all things, and we come seeking Your deliverance from Satan and the powers of evil that follow. But we also seek Your infinite wisdom, grace, and mercy to lead us in the ways of Your kingdom and everlasting life. And this I ask in Jesus’s name. AMEN

A Scripture and a Prayer: “Will He Find Faith”

“When the Son of Man comes, will He really find faith on the earth?” (Luke 18:8)

Prayer:

Jesus, these words cut deep. They truly are that sharp two-edged sword, dividing the soul and the spirit. Therefore, Lord, will you please help us to be faithful to You and to Your word. Help us also be faithful to the calling You have placed upon our lives. Jesus, You promised to return for Your bride, and so may we be found faithful as part of that bride, and may we be like those five virgins who were waiting, having their lanterns filled with the oil of the Holy Spirit, and lit, so that we can shine Your light to this sin darkened world until You return. And this I ask in Your name Lord Jesus. AMEN

A Scripture and a Prayer: “God Changes Everything”

“You turned my wailing into dancing; you removed my sackcloth and clothed me with joy” (Psalm 30:11)

Prayer:

Lord, Your promise is that while sorrow may last for a night, joy, Your joy, comes every morning. As the day progresses, trials and tribulations come against us, and we experience times of loss. And it is in these times that discouragement and disappointment set in, turning our hopes and dreams into times of great sorrow. Yet, in your wonderful mercy and grace, this promise is ours, that you will turn our sorrows, our wailing and mourning into times of dancing and joy. It’s not that these losses disappear or that these trials go away, but that You reveal the beauty of Your presence that overwhelms our souls, and we see Your love, grace, and mercy being poured into our lives. Therefore, for all those who are going through these times of sorrow, Holy Spirit open up their eyes to see the glory of Your presence and put within their heart the joy of Your salvation. And this I ask in Jesus’s name. AMEN

A Scripture and a Prayer: “A New Creation”

“Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, he is a new creation; old things have passed away; behold, all things have become new.” (2 Corinthians 5:17)

Prayer:

Lord, I want to thank you for this great and precious promise of how our past stays there, in the past. How those things that used to define us no longer do, because through faith in Jesus as our Savior and Lord we are now new creations, and our lives are now lived completely new in You. There is nothing better than that. I also pray that we can come into a deeper and more profound knowledge of You and of Your love, mercy, grace, holiness, and righteousness so that we may live in a way that hastens the coming of Your kingdom, and for Your will be done here on earth as You have decreed in heaven. And this I ask in Jesus’s name. AMEN

A Scripture and a Prayer: “Truth Brings Blessings”

“Beloved, I pray that you may prosper in all things and be in health, just as your soul prospers. For I rejoiced greatly when brethren came and testified of the truth that is in you, just as you walk in the truth.” (3 John 2-3)

Prayer:

Lord, I find from this verse that it all starts with You working from within. That as our soul prospers, then we will in like manner prosper in all that we do for You, as we walk in the truth of Your word. Therefore, help us come into a deeper relationship and have a more profound knowledge of You, where like John the Baptist, we would wish to decrease in ourselves so that You can increase within us. Help us not to let the world and the darkness of its evil practices dim the light of You and Your word within. And help us then shine the brightness of Your glory for all to see. And this I ask in Jesus’s name. AMEN

A Scripture and a Prayer: “Where Lies Our Hope”

“Hope in the Lord from this time forth and forevermore.” (Psalm 131:3)

Prayer:

Lord, as I read about how our hope needs to be in You forever, what I see this saying is that it never should fade over time or circumstances. And so, I wonder just how much our hope is in You, Lord, especially given the time wasted in worry over everything that is going on around us and in the world. In fact, this worry even extends into tomorrow and the days ahead, even though You say not to worry about such things. Therefore, Lord, help us have the faith of a child, placing our hope in You as our heavenly Father, and let us be content knowing that as a good Father, You will always give us the best, and this includes the gift to the Holy Spirit. You are our hope, our deliverer, and our strong tower in times of distress. And for this I thank You. AMEN

An Easter Scripture and a Prayer: “God Will Make A Way”

“Thus says the Lord, who makes a way in the sea and a path through the mighty waters.” (Isaiah 43:16)

Prayer:

Lord how great Your deliverance has been for Your people, especially when You delivered them from the bondage of their Egyptian slavery. And how You placed that defining conclusion to their deliverance opening the Red Sea, allowing them to pass over on dry ground while drowning the Egyptian army that was chasing them. Therefore, I humbly request that You deliver Your people today that are struggling under the bondages of others, or to their addictions. But most of all, please deliver all of us from the bondages placed upon us by Satan, and especially those who are still under the bondage of sin and death. Your word goes on to promise that you will now do a new thing. Please do that new thing, make that way, and bring that new life. This I ask in Jesus’s wonderful name. AMEN

A Scripture and a Prayer: “Jesus is the Only One”

“Jesus said to him, ‘I am the way, the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father except through Me.'” (John 14:6)

Prayer:

Lord Jesus, You are truly the only way to the Father and an everlasting home in heaven once this life on earth is over. Help us, therefore, seek Your will and way for our lives, and stop trusting in everything and anything that this world offers up in Your place, like possessions, finances, power, and illicit relationships. Help us to prioritize You and Your kingdom so that we can be those shining examples that You are truly the only one in whom we must believe, and the only one who has made that way to heaven possible. Also, help us to strengthen our relationship with you, not through rules, regulations, and religion, but through falling more and more in love with You. Thank you, Jesus, for taking our place and dying the death we deserve so that we can have this new and born-again relationship with You. AMEN

A Scripture and a Prayer: “No One Like Our God”

“Who is a God like you, who pardons sin and forgives the transgression of the remnant of his inheritance? You do not stay angry forever but delight to show mercy.” (Micah 7:18)

Prayer:

Lord, what can I say to Your lovingkindness towards Your people, and for the favor You have shown in pardoning our sins and forgiving our transgressions. Thank you for Your unswerving faithfulness to those who love and believe in You, that is, Your remnant. And while we stray from Your will and way for our lives and for the life of the church, Your promise is that you will not stay angry, and like the days of Noah, that You will not be angry with us but will look graciously upon us and show us mercy. Your promise is that we can come boldly to Your throne of grace to find mercy in this our time of need, and You have promised that Your mercy is new every single day. Keep us therefore under the shadow of Your wings, and this I ask in Jesus’s name. AMEN

A Scripture and a Prayer: “Jesus Heals Not Hurts”

“Behold! My Servant whom I uphold, My Elect One in whom My soul delights…A bruised reed He will not break, and smoking flax He will not quench.” (Isaiah 42:1-3)

Prayer:

Lord, You sent Your Son, Jesus, Your anointed into this world, not to hurt us but to heal us. You gave us this promise through Your prophet Isaiah saying, “He was wounded for our transgressions, He was bruised for our iniquities; the chastisement for our peace was upon Him, and by His stripes we are healed.” And the Apostle Peter showed how this was talking about Jesus saying that He “bore our sins in His own body on the tree, that we, having died to sins, might live for righteousness–by whose stripes you were healed.” And Jesus Himself reveal the extent and magnitude of this healing saying, “For God did not send His Son into the world to condemn the world, but that the world through Him might be saved.” Jesus , You are our healer, and You heal the hurts of Your people. Therefore, we say, “Thank You Jesus, for healing our body, soul, and spirit.” AMEN

A Scripture and a Prayer: “Jesus is My Surety”

“I know whom I have believed, and am convinced that he is able to guard what I have entrusted to him until that day.” (2 Timothy 1:12)

Prayer:

Lord, Your word makes it clear that it is by Your grace through faith in Jesus Christ that we have been saved, and in this may we fully believe. And Your promise is that when we by faith believe in Jesus that You will reward that faith, because it is that faith that pleases You the most. We also fully believe that You are a God of Your word and promises, as You said that all Your promises are true and can be trusted. It is with these assurances that we are fully convinced You are able to keep and guard us, our families, and Your people until You take us home in heaven to be with You. And it is this surety that we entrust my life to You. AMEN

March 21, 2024

A Scripture and a Prayer: “God’s Great Mercy”

“Through the Lord’s mercies we are not consumed, because His compassions fail not. They are new every morning; great is Your faithfulness” (Lamentations 3:22-23)

Prayer:

Lord, thank you for Your wonderful mercy, compassion, and forgiveness towards us, even though we don’t deserve it, because what we deserve is death due to our sins, not everlasting life. But because of Your mercy we am not consumed, that is, we will not perish because of Your faithfulness and love. Therefore, help us keep my eyes upon You and our hearts open to Your word, revealing Your perfect plan and purpose. Therefore, may we wake up every morning with a song of praise on our lips, our minds filled with Your word, and our hearts fully in love with You. And this I ask in Jesus’s name. AMEN

March 20, 2024

A Scripture and a Prayer: “God Will Sustain”

“Even to your old age and gray hairs I am He, I am He who will sustain you. I have made you and I will carry you; I will sustain you and I will rescue you.” (Isaiah 46:4)

Prayer: A Prayer of Gratefulness

Lord, as we get older, and not so much wiser, we greatly appreciate this promise You give, that in Your faithfulness, not our own, You will sustain, You will carry us through, even when we are ready to give up. Thank you for this and the promise we see that goes along with it, in how You will never leave nor forsake us when things get tough, and we have no strength. And then, how You will deliver and renew our strength, allowing us to either soar on wings like eagles, or run and not grow weary, or for that matter just to walk and faint. What a wonderful and faithful God You are, even when we’re not as faithful as we should be. And while we say, “Thank You Lord,” it doesn’t seem to be enough for all that You do. AMEN

March 19, 2024

A Scripture and a Prayer: “Hardened Heart?”

“Today, if you hear his voice, do not harden your hearts as you did in the rebellion” (Hebrews 3:15)

Prayer:

Lord, give us a heart that is softened by Your grace through faith, so that we don’t follow the example of Israel when they, in their rebellion, hardened their hearts towards You, because You didn’t do things their way. And it says that You brought them into the wilderness for 40 years and did not allow them to enter into Your rest, that is, into Your land of promise because of their unbelief. Help us therefore, Lord not to allow ourselves to be hardened through the deceitfulness of sin, but rather believe Your word of promise. Help us walk by faith in Your word, and not by what we see or the circumstances we face. And as we hear Your voice let us believe and faithfully follow. And this I ask in Jesus’s name. AMEN

March 15, 2024

A Scripture and a Prayer: “Trust and Delight in God”

“Trust in the Lord, and do good, dwell in the land, and feed on His faithfulness. Delight yourself also in the Lord, and He shall give you the desires of your heart.” (Psalm 37:3-4)

Prayer:

Lord, from this wonderful promise, You have made it clear that our need is not just to trust You, but to allow that trust to dictate our actions. Help us, therefore, to stay in the milk and meat of Your word, so that we can truly feed and feast on Your faithfulness towards us. May we also delight in You, and look forward to the gift You have promised, and that is, the desires of our hearts, which has been and should always be a close and personal relationship with You. And so, may we always be mindful of Your constant presence in our lives, and may we do good and delight ourselves in Your wonderful presence. And this I ask in Jesus’s name. AMEN

A Scripture and a Prayer: “Heavenly Reservations”

“You believe in God; believe also in me. My Father’s house has many rooms; if that were not so, would I have told you that I am going there to prepare a place for you?” (John 14:1-2)

Prayer:

Lord, we don’t need Hotels.com to make our heavenly reservations, instead we need Jesus.com. I don’t mean this sound trite, but far too often we tend to go to the world and its definition of what is needed to get to heaven, rather than going to You and the way You have provided. Knowing there is no other way to heaven, and that the way the world believes comes up short, we submit ourselves to You, and the way of the cross. Help us then be faithful to follow You, for there is no other name but the name of Jesus by which we can be saved, and heaven bound. Jesus, You said that You are the way, the truth, and the life, and that no one can make to heaven outside of this relationship with You. So, once again, we submit ourselves to You. AMEN

March 12, 2024

A Scripture and a Prayer: “Blessed Perseverance”

“Blessed is the one who perseveres under trial because, having stood the test, that person will receive the crown of life that the Lord has promised to those who love him.” (James 1:12)

Prayer:

What a blessing it is to know that You, Lord, are always there during our darkest hours keeping us through life’s difficult trials. And knowing this, we humbly ask that You give us the strength and courage to endure and persevere through it all, knowing that after standing firm on You and Your word through the trial and tribulations of life, that You have laid up for us a crown of life. And the neat part is that the only way we can endure through these tough and difficult times is through our love for You. We love that You said the reason we love You is because You first loved us and gave Your Son, Jesus, to die for our sins so that we can live in Your wonderful presence forever. What a wonderful promise You have made, and may we be faithful to share it with all that we connect with. And this I ask in Jesus’s name. AMEN
