Thought for Today: “Hey, You Already Know”

“But concerning the times and the seasons, brethren, you have no need that I should write to you.” (1 Thessalonians 5:1)

But what do they know? Are we to know when Jesus is to return? And the answer is “No.”

Not even Jesus knew as He said, “But of that day and hour no one knows, not even the angels of heaven, but My Father only.” (Matthew 24:36)

And He goes on to cement that truth saying to the disciples after His resurrection, “It is not for you to know times or seasons which the Father has put in His own authority.” (Acts 1:7)

Then what are we to know, and what did they already know? That they need to be ready and watching for His return. Jesus tells them, “Therefore you also be ready, for the Son of Man is coming at an hour you do not expect.” (Matthew 24:44)

Jesus gives two great examples of what this looks like in the parable of the 10 virgins where 5 were ready with their lambs burning brightly with the oil of the Holy Spirit (Matthew 25:1-6), and of the coming rapture in Matthew 24:40-41 where one will be ready and go, while the other is left behind.
