Thought for Today: “Where True Understanding Comes From

The mission of Voyager 2 is to study our solar system and send its findings back to NASA. But, back in August of 2023, after 47 years of space exploration, Voyager 2’s signal was lost because of an incorrect computer command from NASA.

It is amazing the lengths we will go through to understand the universe, like the Hubel Telescope, or hear some sort of message from Outer Space, like the Very Large Array Radio Telescopes in New Mexico. Or we spend millions trying to discover the mystery of our world, or we spend thousands to gain understanding about ourselves from psychologists and philosophers.

All of these, including those we seek answers from are like the computer programmer from NASA who, if I could, spaced out. They miss the mark.

How important is knowing this? Our eternity, our eternal life depends on it.

The Psalmist said that no one can redeem anyone else, including themselves, because the cost is greater than what we can pay (Psalm 49:7-8).

But, knowing this, we won’t spend 15 minutes a day to find the answer for our eternity from the One who created the universe. And He is the one who created us and knows all about us. And it is God’s desire for us to know and to have understanding, especially of our future once this life is over.

The Apostle John said, “And we know that the Son of God has come and has given us an understanding, that we may know Him who is true; and we are in Him who is true, in His Son Jesus Christ. This is the true God and eternal life.” (1 John 5:20)
