Today’s Devotional: “Our Timeless God”

No matter how far back in time we go, there is God. And no matter how far into the future we look, God is there too.

Of God, Moses said, “Even from everlasting to everlasting, You are God.” (Psalm 90:2)

Before time began there was God, and before anything was created, there was God. God exists outside of time, space, and matter, making Him before and after all things.

God has no past or future; He is, by definition, both past and future, not to mention present. This is reflected in the song of praise that has been and will be sung forever by the four living creatures before God’s throne.

“Holy, holy, holy, Lord God Almighty. Who was and is and is to come!” (Revelation 4:8)

And so, God dwells in all eternity, and eternity dwells in God. He has already lived through all of our yesterdays and all of our tomorrows. Here’s the really neat part—which takes faith to believe—He has existed before time began and beyond time’s end, all at the same time.

This is why He can reveal the end from the beginning.

“For I am God, and there is no other; I am God, and there is none like Me. Declaring the end from the beginning. And from ancient times things that are not yet done.” (Isaiah 46:9-10)

And so, the Lord God is exactly as He is described: the beginning and the end, the first and the last.

“I am the Alpha and OmegaBeginning and the End, the Beginning and the End, the First and the Last.” (Revelation 22:13)

Time doesn’t matter to God because God exists outside of it.

God knows all things. He knows where we have been and where we are going, so He also knows what is best for our present.

Therefore, we can trust God with whatever time remains.
