Thought For Today: “Our Highest Goal”
God’s plan and purpose is for us to be like Jesus Christ. This should be our highest goal and aspiration. Our goal should be to change and be more like Him.
“For those God foreknew he also predestined to be conformed to the likeness of his Son.” (Romans 8:29)
But what does this look like? How about a servant! When Jesus washed the disciples’ feet on Passover, He took upon Himself the lowest position of a household servant or slave.
And it was in this position that He said, “If I then, your Lord and Teacher, have washed your feet, you also ought to wash one another’s feet. For I have given you an example, that you should do as I have done to you.” (John 13:14-15)
And so, if our highest goal is to be like Jesus, then our highest goal should be about serving others in the same way He served us, even to the point of allowing it to be taken away.
Jesus gave Himself fully and completely, which we see in His prayer to His Father before His arrest and crucifixion. Jesus prayed “Father, if it is Your will, take this cup away from Me; nevertheless not My will, but Yours, be done.” (Luke 22:42)
And to the disciples, Jesus ended up saying, “If you know these things, blessed are you if you do them.” (John 13:17)
