Today’s 333 Devotional: “Nothing from Nothing”
Back in 1974, Billy Preston had a #1 hit called, “Nothing from Nothing.” Its chorus was simple and is about relationships. It said, “Nothing from nothing leaves nothing. You gotta have something if you wanna be with me.”
This came to mind when thinking about our relationship with God. If we don’t have faith, then there is no relationship with God. But not just faith in God, but faith in His Son, Jesus.
Jesus said, “I am the way and the truth and the life. No one comes to the Father, if not by Me.” (John 14:6)
The Apostle Paul said, “For by grace you have been saved through faith, and that not of yourselves; it is the gift of God, not of works, lest anyone should boast.” (Ephesians 2:8-9)
But humanity’s problem is that they just don’t believe in God. But what we are told, is that this world, this universe is leaving them without excuse.
Paul, in Romans 1:20 said, “For since the creation of the world God’s invisible qualities—his eternal power and divine nature—have been clearly seen, being understood from what has been made, so that people are without excuse.”
There is no excuse then for not believing in God, because creation proves that God exists. Something cannot come from nothing. Therefore, out of nothing, nothing comes. For the world to exist, it had to be created.
God does exist, and the burden of proof is on those who do not believe and deny the existence of God based upon the obvious proof of creation. And then comes the obvious proof that Jesus Christ came, died upon the cross, and was raised from the dead three days later. This is the “something” that is needed to have a relationship with God.
Nothing from nothing leaves nothing. But by God’s grace through faith in Jesus Christ is that one thing that brings us into that relationship. This is the “something if you wanna be with (God).”
