A Scripture and a Prayer: “Guard Your Heart”

“Guard your heart above all else, for it determines the course of your life” (Proverbs 4:23)

Prayer:

Lord, You command us to guard our hearts, because it is our hearts that determines the course in which we take. Yet, You have also made it known that our hearts are deceitful and desperately wicked. So, help us to be like King David, and be a man after Your own heart, because only then will the course of our lives be in accordance with the course You have laid out. And help us to remember that being deceitful, our hearts condemn us at each turn. But, in the end, while our hearts may condemn us, You are greater, because only You know what lies within it (1 John 3:20). AMEN
