Today’s 333 Devotional: “Going Without Knowing”

“By faith Abraham, when called by God to go to a place that he would later receive as his inheritance, obeyed and went, even though he did not know where he was going.” (Hebrews 11:8)

Abraham’s faith saw him leaving what he knew and entered into what he had no idea about, except that it was God who was calling, leading, and directing him along the way. Basically, Abraham was following God’s lead, and that is the type of faith that God is expecting from us, the type of faith that pleases Him (Hebrews 11:6), and the type of faith that God counted as righteousness (Romans 4:3).

It is the type of faith that produces within us the spirit of great excitement, expectation, and anticipation as we wonder and look forward to what’s next in our journey of faith with Him.

Further, what this says is that our journey is not based upon what God is doing, but rather it is based upon the nature and character of God, that is, who God is, which can be seen in the names He is given throughout the Bible.

Who is God? He is the Great I Am, the Alpha and Omega, the First and Last, the Beginning and the End. He is Almighty God, Creator, Provider, Shepherd, and Healer. He is Holy, Righteous, the Lord of Host who is always there. He is the Most High God, who sees everything and is from everlasting to everlasting, and the list just continues.

Therefore, seeing who God is, this means that we can have the same faith Abraham had in God and fully trust in Him, knowing that He will never leave us nor forsake us, and He has a great and perfect plan and a purpose for our lives that is good.

“For I know the thoughts that I think toward you, says the Lord, thoughts of peace and not of evil, to give you a future and a hope.” (Jeremiah 29:11)
