Tuesday’s Thought: “Apply or Embody”
To apply something to our lives means to appropriate, employ, utilize, and make something relevant for our lives.
When it comes to God’s word, the Bible, we are constantly told that we need to apply it, which is a good thing because it means to apply its truths to whatever we face in life, because its truths never change but its application to life’s situations is never ending.
But we need to do more than apply God’s word, we should embody it.
The idea of embodiment is seen in what Jesus defined for us when He came to this earth. He was the full embodiment of the Lord God in human form.
We are told “In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God. … The Word became flesh and made his dwelling among us.” (John 1:1, 14)
And so, to embody God’s word is emulate Jesus. The Apostle John said, “Whoever says he abides in Him ought to walk in the same way in which he walked.” (1 John 2:6)
So, to embody God’s word is to have it alive within us. It is to allow God’s word to become incarnate, that is, it is to be lived out within our lives, where every breath we take comes directly from God, as is every word that we speak.
And so, while it is a good thing to apply God’s word to our lives and the situations we face, we need to go a step further and embody it.
