Thought For Today: “God’s Success Training”

After His resurrection, Jesus stood on the shore of the Galilee and told His disciples, a group of professional fishermen, how to fish.

“He called out to them, ‘Friends, haven’t you any fish?’ ‘No,’ they answered. He said, ‘Throw your net on the right side of the boat, and you will find some.’ When they did, they were unable to haul the net in because of the large number of fish.” (John 21:5-6)

At the time, they didn’t recognize Jesus, and I’m pretty sure they were a bit annoyed that some landlubber would even try to give them advice. But since their way wasn’t working, they tried it and found success.

Success in God’s kingdom never comes when we rely on our own might and understanding; rather, it comes when we listen to God and read His word.

Our problem is that we wonder what God knows about the kind of work we do.

My wife didn’t know how to tile, but she knew that God did. She remembered how God gave wisdom to those who were building the temple, so she asked God, and she was able to tile a whole bathroom.

Here’s the point. When we proceed under the direction of God, His word, and the power of the Holy Spirit, we can accomplish so much more than if we were to proceed on our own.
