Thought For Today: “Equal Opportunity in God’s House”

I came across a very unusual verse. It’s found in David’s delegation of the Temple workload.

“And they cast lots for each gate, the small as well as the great, according to their father’s house.” (1 Chronicles 26:13)

Society has a grading system based on power, prestige, and possessions. But these are not found in the House of God. In our service of the Lord, whether cleaning the bathrooms or teaching a Bible class, there must always be equality and opportunity for all.

In the verse above, lots were cast, but it wasn’t the luck of the draw; rather, it was what Solomon said, saying, “The lot is cast into the lap, but its every decision is from the Lord.” (Proverbs 16:33)

We are to seek direct guidance from the Holy Spirit, and the choice is not up to us but to the Lord. Therefore, whatever we consider important must be given little to no weight in the decision-making process.
