Thought For Today: “New Is Not Always Better”
We live in a society and culture that worships the “new.” We’re always looking for and buying the “new and improved” models or products, never knowing whether they will work as well or better than what we already have.
We do this in our spiritual lives as well. God’s word and ways have always proven faithful and true. But at the first mention of something new, such as a new doctrine or a new way to do church, we rush to buy into it before we’ve even tested it.
The Bible says, “Do not believe every spirit, but test the spirits to see whether they are from God, because many false prophets have gone out into the world.” (1 John 4:1)
We need to stick to those wells of living water that have proven themselves true rather than constantly digging new wells that either turn up dry or, worse, poisonous.
What the church must do instead of trying to be culturally relevant is to reopen these wells of living water that have brought life and revival to millions in the past.
The church can be relevant in any culture without sacrificing biblical truth.
