Thought For Today: “When Good Works are Bad”
We are told that God sees our good works and rewards us accordingly.
“(God) will render to each one according to his deeds: eternal life to those who by patient continuance in doing good seek for glory, honor, and immortality.” (Romans 2:6-7)
“And to her (the Church) it was granted to be arrayed in fine linen, clean and bright, for the fine linen is the righteous acts of the saints.” (Revelation 19:8)
But when these works are done for our own glory, or when they are done to ingratiate ourselves to God, then our good works are bad, and we’ll receive nothing from God.
“Take heed that you do not do your charitable deeds before men, to be seen by them. Otherwise, you have no reward from your Father in heaven.” (Matthew 6:1)
Therefore, let us fulfill God’s calling so people will see the Lord and give Him glory.
“Let your light so shine before men, that they may see your good works and glorify your Father in heaven.” (Matthew 5:16)
