Monday’s 333 Devotional: “What’s Wrong With Us?”
How can we be so deluded? Here we are saved by God’s grace through faith, and we go back and do the things we use to do when we were in the world.
These things didn’t save us; in fact, they were the very things Satan used to keep us in bondage. They have no power to save so why do we still go back to and serve them?
The Apostle Paul said these things are not really God, rather they’re so-called gods, weak, beggarly, and without power. They were useless then and they’re just as useless now.
This was Paul’s message to the Galatians when they started drifting into a cycle of good works to earn their salvation.
He said, “But now after you have known God, or rather are known by God, how is it that you turn again to the weak and beggarly elements, to which you desire again to be in bondage?” (Galatians 4:9)
The New Living Translation says, “And now that you have found God (or should I say, now that God has found you), why do you want to go back again and become slaves once more to the weak and useless spiritual powers of this world?” (Galatians 4:9 NLT)
We’ve been redeemed, that is, we’ve been delivered from our bondage and slavery to sin through the blood of Jesus.
The Apostle Peter says, “Knowing that you were not redeemed with corruptible things, like silver or gold … but with the precious blood of Christ” (1 Peter 1:18-19a).
Nothing else has redeemed us. Not religion, not rules and regulations, not traditions, not feeling good about ourselves or even forgiving ourselves. Nothing but the blood Jesus shed for us upon the cross redeems and sets us free.
It was a costly price Jesus paid, so think about it. Why are we going back to all the stuff that kept us in bondage and is beginning to do it once again?
What’s wrong with us?
