Thought for Today: “What We Give God”
God is worthy to receive our best, nothing less. King David understood this. He wouldn’t offer God that which cost him nothing. “I will not sacrifice to the Lord my God burnt offerings that cost me nothing.” (2 Samuel 24:24)
The Lord said our giving shouldn’t be what is left over. “When you offer the blind as a sacrifice, is it not evil? And when you offer the lame and sick, is it not evil? Offer it then to your governor! Would he be pleased with you? Would he accept you favorably?” (Malachi 1:8)
But the sacrifice that God considers the greatest are hearts and spirits that realizes our unworthiness before a holy, gracious, and righteous God who is worthy. “You would not be pleased with sacrifices, or I would bring them. If I brought you a burnt offering, you would not accept it. The sacrifices of God are a broken spirit, a broken and a contrite heart – these, O God, You will not despise.” (Psalm 51:16-17)
So, let us willingly give unto the Lord our very best, that is, loving Him with all our heart, soul, mind, and strength. (Mark 12:30)
