Thought For Today: “Weeping For Our World”
As I look at our world today, especially here in America, I don’t recognize it as it has lost its identity in Christ. As I think about that, the think of when Job’s friends saw his condition, and that they could no longer recognize him it says they wept (Job 2:12).
This is my prayer for every believer in Jesus Christ. When we see the condition of the world and how unrecognizable it is to what God created, like Job we should go into mourning, and then be like Job’s friends and weep over what we see.
Rivers of water should be running down our faces over the sin of our day and the condition of this world and of people’s lives.
“Blessed are those who mourn, for they shall be comforted.” (Matthew 5:4)
When I think of this I also think of the time when David and his men returned to the ruined remains of their city, and the loss of their families and possessions. It says that David and his men wept until he had no more power or tears to weep any more.
It says, “Then David and the people who were with him lifted up their voices and wept, until they had no more power to weep.” (1 Samuel 30:4)
But David didn’t stop at weeping, instead he did something about it, and God saw and responded.
“But David strengthened himself in the Lord his God … (AND) David inquired of the Lord, saying, ‘Shall I pursue this troop? Shall I overtake them? And He answered him, ‘Pursue, for you shall surely overtake them and without fail recover all.’” (1 Samuel 30:6b, 8)
And so, let’s not only weep over this sin-filled and dominated world, but also let’s start inquiring of the Lord and find out what He wants us to do to stem the tide.
