Today’s Devotional: “We Need Guidance”
Accepting that we need help is hard because we dislike admitting we’re lost and asking for directions. So we keep going, more confused than before.
Since sheep tend to wander off by nature, they need a shepherd. We are quite similar to sheep, so we also require our heavenly Shepherd to keep us on the straight and narrow.
“All we like sheep have gone astray; we have turned, every one, to his own way.” (Isaiah 53:6)
This is the real reason why we struggle to understand God’s will. We stray from the path, choosing our way instead of the Lord’s.
Did you know that sheep have poor eyesight? I found out that they don’t see very well in the distance, so they can’t see what’s ahead. That’s why they rely heavily on the shepherd to lead them.
We’re just as near-sighted when it comes to the path we’re supposed to take through life. We don’t know what will happen tomorrow, and while we make our plans, things change.
So, we need God as our Shepherd to guide us so we don’t end up on the wrong path or at a dead end. Look at how Solomon describes this: “There is a way that seems right to a man, but its end is the way of death.” (Proverbs 14:12)
We all make decisions that seem right at the time but later prove to be disastrous. That’s why we need to acknowledge our need for God’s guidance. King David was a shepherd in his youth and knew he needed God to be his Shepherd.
“He guides the humble in what is right and teaches them his way.” (Psalm 25:9)
We need to humble ourselves before the Lord.
