Today’s 333 Devotional: “Truth”
What is truth?
This was Pilate’s question to Jesus. This is the question of the ages, and if we don’t get it right, then we’re in for a world of hurt, not only in this life, but for eternity as well.
Jesus said, “For this cause I was born, and for this cause I have come into the world, that I should bear witness to the truth. Everyone who is of the truth hears My voice.” (John 18:37)
Consider what it says in Proverbs.
“There is a way that appears to be right, but in the end it leads to death.” (Proverbs 14:12)
Life has two outcomes: heaven or hell, and understanding what is the truth determines which of the two outcomes a person’s life will take. Jesus talks about them as gates. The wide gate and way leads to destruction, while the narrow gate and way leads to life.
The wide gate and the road to which it leads is the more popular route because its broad width allows a multitude of opinions and beliefs, while the narrow way Jesus says is difficult.
Since knowing truth determines one’s eternal outcomes it’s important to know what qualifies as truth.
Society purports many things as “truth,” the only problem is that these “truths” conflict with each other.
So what determines truth? What is truth based upon?
By its very nature truth is narrow. Either something is true or it isn’t. Scripture teaches that truth is truth regardless of whether we agree with it or not. Our opinion of the truth really doesn’t matter.
There are not many truths; rather there is only one truth. There are not many ways that lead to God, there is only one way, and that way and that truth is Jesus.
Jesus said, “I am the way, the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father except through Me.” (John 14:6)
Jesus is not one of many ways; He is the only way. Jesus is truth.
