Friday’s 333 Devotional: “Touching Jesus”
Out of the hundreds that pressed and crowded around Jesus, only one reached out by faith and touched Him.
“When she heard about Jesus, she came up behind him in the crowd and touched his cloak … Jesus realized that power had gone out from him. He turned around in the crowd and asked, “Who touched my clothes?” (Mark 5:27, 30)
She came discouraged and feeling hopeless. She had an issue of blood and couldn’t stop her bleeding. Doctors tried, but none could. When she heard Jesus was there, she thought if she could just touch His garment she’d be healed. So, she went by faith to touch Him.
And Jesus knew her touch. He knew someone had reached out by faith and touched Him. And so, to this woman He said, “Your faith has healed you. Go in peace and be freed from your suffering.” (Mark 5:34)
Many crowded in to see and touch Jesus, but only this woman really touched Him.
We go to church where we gather with others, sing some songs, pray, and listen to God’s word, but have we touched Jesus? Most simply rub shoulders with Jesus, have a glancing touch, but leave unchanged.
They’re unaffected because they haven’t reached out by faith to touch Jesus.
Jesus said, “For where two or three are gathered together in My name, I am there in the midst of them.” (Matthew 18:20)
Jesus is there when we gather to worship Him, but are we just a part of the crowd, or have we come to touch Him by faith believing?
It’s incredible how we can be in His presence and yet be so unaffected and unaware of His grace and power to heal. Often times we’re just too preoccupied with self than we are with Him.
Jesus knows when you reach out by faith to touch Him. And so, when you gather with others in the presence of the Lord, reach out and touch Jesus, He’s there to heal.
