Time To Take Possession

Thought For Today: “Time To Take Possession”

Are we taking possession of God’s promises?

When it came to taking the promised inheritance, many of the tribes of Israel fell short of the promise. The tribe of Ephraim was given some of the very best land, but they didn’t take full possession of it. It says, “They did not drive out the Canaanites.” (Joshua 16:10)

The tribe of Manasseh was given even more land than originally allotted, but they wanted more, because of the greatness of the enemy that lived there (Joshua 17:12). They wanted the promise but didn’t want to work or sacrifice what was needed to secure it.

How about us? We have been given great and precious promises from God’s word that we love to quote, but have we taken possession of them? Understand that the greater the promise, the greater the opposition will be to possess it.

Look at what God told to Joshua at the outset of their entering into the Promise Land.

“Be strong and of good courage, for to this people you shall divide as an inheritance the land which I swore to their fathers to give them … Have I not commanded you? Be strong and of good courage; do not be afraid, nor be dismayed, for the Lord your God is with you wherever you go.” (Joshua 1:6, 9)

Therefore, are we willing to fight the battles and to make the sacrifices necessary to secure what God has given?
