Thought For Today: “The Benefits of Age”
Let’s not despise our age and those who have lived through the trials and tribulations of life. They have much to give and a lot of wisdom to share.
The Psalmist said, “Even when I am old and gray, do not forsake me, O God, till I declare Your power to the next generation, Your might to all who are to come.” (Psalm 71:18)
While we often quote Paul telling Timothy not to let anyone despise his youth (1 Timothy 4:12), we often despise the elderly and the wisdom they bring. We are a youth-oriented culture, even within the church. But with age comes wisdom, therefore, let’s honor and take time to listen to those who have done what we’re attempting to do now.
For those of us who are no longer in the prime of our lives, let’s purpose to speak life and encouragement into the next generation. Let’s not allow the trials and tribulations of our past cool the passion of the youth. Instead let’s encourage and stimulate God’s vision for them and stand alongside to help lift them up with the same grace God extended to us.
