In everything we do and say in this life, as believers in Jesus Christ, we’re not only to be an example but also to set one for others to follow.

We live in a culture where no one takes responsibility, where celebrities and people in authority act irresponsibly, setting bad examples, and then have the audacity to say they’re not to blame when others, including our children, follow their lead.

So, what are believers in Jesus Christ to do? We’re to be standard-bearers of God’s word to help right the ship that these others are sinking.

This is what the Apostle Paul told Timothy.

In his first letter, he wrote, “In speech, conduct, love, faith, and purity, show yourself an example of those who believe.” (1 Timothy 4:12)

And then, in his second letter to Timothy, Paul said, “Do your best to present yourself to God as one approved, a worker who does not need to be ashamed and who correctly handles the word of truth.” (2 Timothy 2:15)
