Rediscover the Bible for Life

“Signed, Sealed, and Delivered”

If you were on the earth during Noah’s time, would God have chosen you? Would you be one of those chosen to be on the cruise of a lifetime?

Or let’s say you were alive when Jesus walked the earth. Would Jesus have chosen you to be one of His disciples?

Not easy questions to answer. But let me say this that we’re far more valuable in the eyes of God than we are in our own eyes.

I remember seeing jars of jams and preserves sitting on the upper shelves of our garage when I was young and I thought to myself, “How long have these been setting there?” The reason is that they had what you might call a healthy, or shall I say an unhealthy coating of dust on the top of each one.

But they tasted absolutely great every time we’d open one, and I always wondered why seeing that a coating of wax was all there was between the air and the jam.

It’s all in the process. After filling the jar with the hot preserves, the “Jammer” would pour a wax covering over top until it reached the jar’s brim. They would then place a rubber-lined lid on top and fasten it tight. The wax and the vacuum that was caused by the cooling preserves would seal the jar tight, allowing it to sit for years. In other words, it was sealed, preserved, protected, and always good until it was finally opened.

Paul, under the inspiration of the Holy Spirit said that after listening to the message of truth, the good news of our salvation – having also believed and coming into a born again relationship with Jesus Christ – we were in like manner sealed, preserved, and protected in Christ by the Holy Spirit of promise.

God’s seal of ownership was placed in and over our lives, and no power in Heaven, Hell, or upon this earth can break that seal. It’s a seal where God shuts us up tightly in Him. We are sealed, preserved, and protected until the day of the redemption.

Paul told the Church in Ephesus, “Do not grieve the Holy Spirit of God, by whom you were sealed for the day of redemption.” (Ephesians 4:30)

The Apostle Paul talked about this sealing earlier in his letter to the Church in Ephesus.

“In Him you also trusted, after you heard the word of truth, the gospel of your salvation; in whom also, having believed, you were sealed with the Holy Spirit of promise, who is the guarantee of our inheritance until the redemption of the purchased possession, to the praise of His glory.” (Ephesians 1:13-14)

When you come to faith in Jesus Christ, know then that you’ve been signed, sealed, and delivered.
