Thought for Today: “Saved from Sin”
“There is no one on earth who is righteous, no one who does what is right and never sins.” (Ecclesiastes 7:20)
This truth is so important for us to understand that it is repeated several times throughout God’s word (Proverbs 20:9; Romans 3:23;1 John 1:8).
We are not sinners because we sin, we sin because we are sinners.
But Jesus Christ came to save from the penalty, power, and presence of sin. We have been saved from the penalty of sin (John 5:24). We are being saved from the power of sin (1 Corinthians 1:18). And we will be saved from the presence of sin (Revelation 21:27).
Concerning the birth, life and purpose of Jesus, the angel said, “And you shall call His name Jesus, for He will save His people from their sins. (Matthew 1:21)
And this is beautifully summed up in what the Apostle Paul said in Romans 6:23 saying, “For the wages of sin is death, but the gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord.”
