Thought For Today: “Rest Comes Through War”
In Joshua 11:23 it says that the land had rest from war. Yet, neither the land nor the people had any rest from the battles because battles still had to be fought by the individual tribes when they took the parcel allotted to them as their inheritance.
So, it’s not that there were no more battles, but rather rest is achieved through war.
Jesus promised us rest. He said, “Come unto me all you who labor and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest.” (Matthew 11:28)
But at the same time, we’re engaged in a war, not a physical war, but a spiritual one against Satan and his demons (Ephesians 6:12).
So, where is the rest? Our rest comes from our relationship with Christ, and that while we are to participate in the battle, the battle isn’t ours, it is the Lord’s (2 Chronicles 20:15).
So, let’s put on the full armor of God and go out to battle knowing that the victory has already been won on the cross and through Jesus’s resurrection, and then rest in the victory that is already ours.
