Thought for Today: “Pursuing God’s Presence”
It is in the presence of God that strength, hope, grace, and mercy come from.
We could say our strength is found in, our grace and mercy come from, and our hope centers in the presence of God. Therefore, we need passionately pursue God’s presence. This seeking and living in the Lord’s presence is what strengthened David and gave him the hope of God’s mercy and grace in his time of need.
“Hear, O Lord, when I cry with my voice! Have mercy also upon me, and answer me. When You said, ‘Seek My face,’ My heart said to You, ‘Your face, Lord, I will seek.’ … I would have lost heart, unless I had believed That I would see the goodness of the Lord In the land of the living.” (Psalm 27:7-8, 13)
How can we then passionately pursue God’s presence? How can see seek the face of God? It is by going to where God is.
First, through His word: All scripture is given by inspiration of God and is profitable for doctrine, for reproof, for correction, for instruction in righteousness that the man of God may be complete, thoroughly equipped for every good work.” (2 Timothy 3:16-17)
Second, through prayer: “Let us therefore come boldly to the throne of grace, that we may obtain mercy and find grace to help in time of need.” (Hebrews 4:16)
