Thought For Today: “Prophetic Vision”

Solomon, the wisest man who ever lived and one who wrote the book of Proverbs under the inspiration of the Holy Spirit, said, “When there is no vision, the people perish.” (Proverbs 29:18 KJV)

If I could offer a working definition of this while staying true to the text, I would say, “Without a vision or a divine revelation from God, life has no meaning or purpose. Because of this, God’s people will cast off all restraint and do whatever they want, whenever they want.”

We see this played out in real life in the book of Judges, where it says, “In those days there was no king in Israel; everyone did what was right in his own eyes” (Judges 17:6).

Now, whenever prophetic vision is discussed, we think of God speaking to us through prayer, which can be the case when God speaks directly to whatever we are going through. But for the most part, God’s prophetic visions come through spending time with God in His word, the Bible.

And so, if we need a word from God, let’s start by getting into God’s word and asking the Holy Spirit to speak to us through it, so that we can have the wisdom of God for what we’re facing in this life.
