Thought For Today: “Praying by Faith”
Elijah was a human being, even as we are. He prayed earnestly that it would not rain, and it did not rain on the land for three and a half years (James 5:17). Then, after he prayed, fire came down from heaven and consumed the sacrifice on Mount Carmel. He told Ahab to hurry back, saying he heard the sound of heavy rain even though there wasn’t a cloud in the sky. After praying, the sky grew black with clouds, and a heavy rain fell (1 Kings 18).
The key, however, is what James said: that Elijah was no different from you or me, except that he prayed by faith.
The Apostle James also said, “But when you ask, you must believe and not doubt, because the one who doubts is like a wave of the sea, blown and tossed by the wind. That person should not expect to receive anything from the Lord.” (James 1:6-7)
To the prophet Isaiah, the Lord said, “Who will go for us,” and Isaiah replied, “Here am I, send me.” (Isaiah 6:8)
Both Elijah and Isaiah were men of faith, prayer, and the word of God.
And while there have been those who cry out, “Where are the Elijahs and Isaiahs of God?” the answer is that they are here, they are us. We just have to believe, pray by faith, and obey.
