Thought for Today: “Possessing the Promises”
Are we taking possession of God’s promises?
I’ve been looking at the inheritance of the tribes of Israel in the Promised Land. When it came to Ephraim, while they were given some of the very best land, they didn’t take full possession of it. It says, “They did not drive out the Canaanites.” (Joshua 16:10).
While they took their inheritance, they didn’t take full possession of it.
The same can be said for their sister tribe, Manasseh. They were given even more land than originally allotted, but they wanted even more, because of the greatness of the enemy that lived there (Joshua 17:12). It seems that they wanted the promise but didn’t want the work or sacrifice needed to secure it.
How about us?
We have been given great and precious promises that we often like to quote, but have we taken possession of them? Understand that the greater the promise, the greater the opposition will be to possess it. Therefore, are we willing to fight the battles and to make the sacrifices necessary to secure what God given?
