Thursday’s Thought: “Possessing Our Promises”
The Promises of God are ours only when we by faith claim and move forward in them.
The Lord said to Joshua, “Every place that the sole of your foot will tread upon I have given you.” (Joshua 1:3)
The whole land was theirs, but they could only possess what they claimed.
But they had to believe in God and move forward by faith, even though everything may say differently. They had to cross a flooded Jordan River, and by faith moved forward, and only then did the Lord stop up the waters enabling to cross over on dry ground.
And then by faith they marched around the city of Jericho for six days without saying a word or shooting an arrow. And then on the seventh day they marched around Jericho seven times, and then they blew the trumpets and shouted, and the walls came tumbling down.
These become our example, that by faith, which is the substance of things hoped for and the evidence of things not seen (Hebrews 11:1), we need to move forward and claim the promises of God.
Or, as the writer of Hebrews tells us, “Do not become sluggish, but imitate those who through faith and patience inherit the promises.” (Hebrews 6:12)
