Thought for Today: “Photoshopping Our Image”
In this world, image is everything.
Photoshopping is one of Hollywood’s favorite things to do. They manipulate a picture to alter the look of someone from what they were, to what they want them to be. If they don’t like the way a photograph looks, just shave a little off here, or put a little on there, and voilà, you have a new person without all the expense of a plastic surgeon.
But we should never edit ourselves in order to manage our image. Paul said, “Our purpose is to please God, not people. He alone examines the motives of our hearts.” (1 Thessalonians 2:4b)
Instead, we need to take off the old self, filled with sin, to put on the new self, one that has been specially provided by God through faith in Jesus Christ.
“Put off, concerning your former conduct, the old man which grows corrupt according to the deceitful lusts, and be renewed in the spirit of your mind, and that you put on the new man which was created according to God, in true righteousness and holiness.” (Ephesians 4:22-24)
