Our Ultimate Goal

Thought for Today: “Our Ultimate Goal”

In his letter to the Philippian Church, Paul outlines his ultimate goal, and that is not to be ashamed in His ministry and work for the Lord, which according to his letter to the Roman church was the proclamation of the gospel of Jesus Christ to everyone, Jew or Gentile.

“According to my earnest expectation and hope that in nothing I shall be ashamed, but with all boldness, as always, so now also Christ will be magnified in my body, whether by life or by death.” (Philippians 1:20)

“For I am not ashamed of the gospel of Christ, for it is the power of God to salvation for everyone who believes, for the Jew first and also for the Greek.” (Romans 1:16)

Like Paul, our ultimate goal should be to proclaim the gospel message to anyone and everyone. Unfortunately, we have other goals that compete with God’s, which include those surrounding family, work, friends, and bucket lists, and we feel like our lives are not complete if we don’t complete them.

But our lives instead need to be wrapped up in the Lord God and His ultimate calling upon our lives. And what this entails is a surrendering of ourselves, of our own will and way to the will and way of God. Therefore, our ultimate goal is to be everything we can be for God, instead of for ourselves and for this world.
