Thought For Today: “Our Greatest Need”

Our most important need is to pursue God, and this is clearly reflected throughout the Bible.

In Hebrew, there are two words for seeking after God. One indicates a desire to inquire regularly, and the other shows a longing to enter someone’s presence. In Greek, there are also two words that mean to reach out and to seek in order to understand.

Therefore, seeking after God means consistently reaching out to Him, entering into His presence, and striving to understand Him more fully. It was this pursuit that motivated the Apostle Paul.

“That I may know Him (Jesus) and the power of His resurrection, and the fellowship of His sufferings, being conformed to His death.” (Philippians 3:10)

This word “to know” means more than just having knowledge; it suggests intimacy. It is to know Christ as one spouse knows another. Paul seeks an intimate relationship.

And so, seeking after God is our effort to reach out to Him and know Him intimately by entering into His presence. This is our greatest need.
