Nothing Could Be Finer

These are part of the lyrics of a song made popular in the 1940’s “Carolina in the Morning.” The premise is that nothing could be finer than to be in Carolina with one’s ‘sweetie.’

And no offense to the lyricist, but I would have to disagree along with the Psalmist. He said, “How lovely is Your tabernacle, O Lord of hosts! My soul longs, yes, even faints for the courts of the Lord; my heart and my flesh cry out for the living God.” (Psalm 84:1-2)

There is nothing in this world, no possession, power, or even prestige, not even the sweetest of loves that could even come close in comparing to knowing the love of the Lord and being in His house.

King David said, “O God, You are my God; early will I seek You; my soul thirsts for You; my flesh longs for You in a dry and thirsty land where there is no water. So I have looked for You in the sanctuary, to see Your power and Your glory. Because Your lovingkindness is better than life, my lips shall praise You. Thus I will bless You while I live; I will lift up my hands in Your name.” (Psalm 63:1-4)

This is more important than anything else in this world, and David would give the whole world for it.

Knowing the love of God for our lives means everything, because we all go through times of trials and difficulties, through our Valleys of Baca (weeping) as the Psalmist goes on to say in Psalm 84:6.

But it’s the love of God that makes these Valley’s of tears into springs of living water, and that carries us forward making us stronger every minute as we continue in this love relationship.

Therefore, my prayer is that we would come into the house of the Lord longing for, yes even fainting for the love of Jesus Christ, along with our hearts crying out to Him in praise.
