Thought For Today: “Nothing but the Best”
God is worthy to receive our best and nothing less. David understood this saying that he wouldn’t offer God that which cost him nothing.
“I will not sacrifice to the Lord my God burnt offerings that cost me nothing.” (2 Samuel 24:24)
Our giving to God shouldn’t be what’s left over once everything else is taken care of.
“‘When you offer the blind as a sacrifice, is it not evil? And when you offer the lame and sick, is it not evil? Offer it then to your governor! Would he be pleased with you? Would he accept you favorably?’ Says the Lord of hosts.” (Malachi 1:8)
And while giving unto the Lord in such a manner is good and is something Jesus said should be maintained along with the weightier matters of the law of judgment, mercy, and faith (Matthew 23:23).
But in the end, the sacrifice God considers over all the others are hearts and spirits that realize our unworthiness before a holy, gracious, and righteous God.
“You would not be pleased with sacrifices, or I would bring them. If I brought you a burnt offering, you would not accept it. The sacrifices of God are a broken spirit, a broken and a contrite heart – these, O God, You will not despise.” (Psalm 51:16-17)
So, let us willingly give unto the Lord our very best, our loving Him with all our heart, soul, mind, and strength (Mark 12:30).
