Thought for Today: “No Shame in Waiting”

No one likes to wait. But even more we have a hard time saying to someone that we’re waiting upon the Lord, especially when we tell them of a promise God has given but have yet to receive. And this also goes for when we are waiting for a healing, and then try to explain our belief and faith in an all-loving God who heals.

For most, they start to wonder if what we say we believe is real, or that somehow, we believe that we have let God down in some way and that we’re getting our “just desserts.”

But this is not the Lord God in whom we serve. He is real and He loves us unconditionally.

Instead, when we wait upon the Lord, what we are saying is that we are not in control of our lives, but rather we’ve given that control over to the Lord. Therefore, waiting upon the Lord is a good thing, and never should we be ashamed to say that we’re waiting upon the Lord.

King David said, “Let no one who waits on You be ashamed; let those be ashamed who deal treacherously without cause … Let integrity and uprightness preserve me, for I wait for You.” (Psalm 25:3, 21)

Further, this should never hinder our sharing the good news of Jesus Christ to others, or of our being ashamed to do so.

Consider Paul who never was completely healed and bore the marks upon and within his body. He said, “For I am not ashamed of the gospel of Christ, for it is the power of God to salvation for everyone who believes.” (Romans 1:16)
