Today’s Devotional: “Living by Faith”
Sometimes we won’t know! We need to accept this in our hearts if we want to move forward into the fullness of what God has for our lives.
The Bible says that by faith Abraham left his home and country and traveled to a land he knew little or nothing about. By faith, he moved without a clear reason or explanation.
“By faith Abraham obeyed when he was called to go out to the place which he would receive as an inheritance. And he went out, not knowing where he was going.” (Hebrews 11:8)
By faith, we believe in God’s existence even though we cannot see or fully understand Him with our natural senses. Because of this faith, God richly rewards us.
“He who comes to God must believe that He is, and that He is a rewarder of those who diligently seek Him.” (Hebrews 11:6)
Abraham lived by faith, defined as the substance of what is hoped for and the evidence of things not seen (Hebrews 11:1).
Of Abraham, it says, “Against all hope, Abraham in hope believed and so became the father of many nations, just as it had been said to him, ‘So shall your offspring be.’” (Romans 4:18)
But modern humans struggle to understand this reality, even though they also live by faith. Their faith is in the natural sciences, which have yet to fully explain humanity and the universe, whereas the Christian’s faith is in God, whom we cannot see but know exists and created everything.
Yes, science has greatly enriched our daily lives, but it has done little to explain the mysteries of the universe, instead fostering a generation of mindless spiritual zombies rather than faith-filled spiritual giants.
“Let God be true, and every human being a liar. As it is written: ‘So that you may be proved right when you speak and prevail when you judge.’” (Romans 3:4)
