Thought for Today: “Last Chance Invitation”
“And the Spirit and the bride say, ‘Come!’ And let him who hears say, ‘Come!’ And let him who thirsts come. Whoever desires, let him take the water of life freely.’” (Revelation 22:17)
This is a sinner’s last chance invitation to come to Christ in the Bible. And it is spoken by both the Holy Spirit, and the church, that is, you and me.
This invitation echoes the words of the prophet Isaiah saying, “Ho! Everyone who thirsts, come to the waters; and you who have no money, come, buy and eat.” (Isaiah 55:1a)
It also echoes the words of Jesus, saying, “But whoever drinks of the water that I shall give him will never thirst. But the water that I shall give him will become in him a fountain of water springing up into everlasting life.” (John 4:14) Also, “If anyone thirsts, let him come to Me and drink. He who believes in Me, as the Scripture has said, out of his heart will flow rivers of living water.” (John 7:37-38)
And so, just as water is essential to life, a person cannot go three days without it, we cannot go one second without Jesus and from the living water He freely provides. And when we do, we’ll have abundant life both now and for all eternity.
So, don’t let this last invitation pass by. And church, we are to let this world that is lost and thirsty know this reality.
