Today’s 333 Devotional: “Landmarks to Live By”
Let’s stop tearing down what our forefathers have set up.
Landmarks, or boundary stones, were set up to mark out God’s promises to the people of Israel. If anyone was caught moving them, they were stealing from God. So, boundaries established by God through their forefathers were to be preserved.
Solomon said, “Do not remove the ancient landmark which your fathers have set.” (Proverbs 22:28)
Through the prophet Hosea, the Lord said His wrath would be against those who did.
“Those who remove a landmark; I will pour out my wrath on them like water.” (Hosea 5:10)
The same can be said concerning the landmarks or boundary stones defining our nation. These are the principles upon which America was founded, and these founding principles need to be maintained at all costs if we’re to remain free and prosperous.
And while there are many such principles, the main ones that needs to be maintained are liberty, religious freedom, and our trust in God.
But God hasn’t blessed America because of capitalism, nor because we are a free nation and have religious freedom. God has blessed America because it was founded upon biblical principles honoring God. It’s not by coincidence we have upon our coinage “In God We Trust,” or as a part of our Pledge of Allegiance, “Under God.”
But today there is a concerted effort to remove this foundation stone, this landmark upon which our country was built, and upon which our country has flourished. And if we continue to move and eventually remove this defining landmark, then God’s wrath won’t be far behind.
Moses gives this advice, “For the Lord your God is bringing you into a good land … Beware that you do not forget the Lord your God by not keeping His commandments, His judgments, and His statutes which I command you today.” (Deuteronomy 8:7a, 11)
God set up these landmarks, therefore let’s be careful not to remove them and then as a result face His wrath.
