Jesus’s Birth Attracts Attention

Today’s Devotional: “Jesus’s Birth Attracts Attention”

Our eyes are naturally drawn to light. When we enter a dark room, our first instinct is to look toward the lamp or candle. Likewise, when we’re outside at night and a bolt of lightning streaks across the sky, our eyes are immediately drawn to it.

When speaking of the coming Messiah, Isaiah said, “The people who walked in darkness have seen a great light; those who dwelt in the land of the shadow of death, upon them a light has shined.” (Isaiah 9:2)

When the Messiah comes, He will illuminate the world, and everyone living in this sin-darkened world will take notice.

God brought forth divine light to draw attention to Jesus’ birth.

That night, shepherds were out in the field watching over their flocks when suddenly an angel appeared, and the light of God’s glory shone all around them. You could say that God had grabbed their attention.

And then you have the heavenly star that led the wise men from the East to pack their bags and make the journey west to Jerusalem and then to Bethlehem.

When Jesus began His ministry as the Light in a dark world, He drew a great deal of attention. In fact, He became the focal point. As large crowds followed Him, people came from all over to hear Him and to be healed.

From the time of His birth until His death on the cross, Jesus attracted people’s attention, and He continues to do so today.

This is what Jesus said, “And I, if I am lifted up from the earth, will draw all peoples to Myself.” (John 12:32)

It’s when we shine the light of Jesus’ love, a love that took Him to the cross to die, and then shine that light on the darkness of sin that people will naturally pay attention.

And so, Jesus continues to attract attention.
