Today’s Devotional: “It’s Closer Than We Thought”
Lately, I’ve had conversations about a variety of issues, with the overall conclusion being “It’s closer than we thought.”
Several talked about their health and are making plans for their deaths. But death is a natural part of life. No one lives forever in these death and sin-filled earthly bodies.
The writer of Hebrews says, “It is appointed for men to die once, but after this the judgment, so Christ was offered once to bear the sins of many.” (Hebrews 9:27-28a)
But as believers in Jesus Christ, we no longer need to fear death. The Apostle Paul said, “We are confident, yes, well pleased rather to be absent from the body and to be present with the Lord” (2 Corinthians 5:8).
Therefore, we can look forward to that day with great anticipation and excitement.
“For to me, to live is Christ, and to die is gain … For I am hard pressed between the two, having a desire to depart and be with Christ, which is far better. Nevertheless, to remain in the flesh is more needful for you.” (Philippians 1:21-24)
Therefore, even though death is closer than we may have thought, we need not fear it, for believers in Jesus will receive eternal life in His presence in heaven.
And now, with everything going on around the world, from wars and natural disasters, those who know the Bible and recognize the signs of the times realize we are living in the last of the last days.
And, while we may not know the day or the hour, we know we are getting close.
“But of that day and hour no one knows, not even the angels of heaven, but My Father only. But as the days of Noah were, so also will the coming of the Son of Man be.” (Matthew 24:36-37)
Therefore, let’s get ready because we’re closer than we expected!
