Thought for Today: “Inspired Power”

The word, “inspired,” means to cause something to happen or be created. In the Greek language it is the word, “pneuma,” which is translated as breath or wind. And when translated it is often referred to the Holy Spirit.

Taking both the English and Greek definitions, what we see is that inspiration comes directly from God the Holy Spirit, whom the Bible calls both breath and wind.

When Jesus showed Himself to the disciples, He said in John 20:21-22, “‘Peace to you! As the Father sent me, I also send you.’ And when He had said this, He breathed on them and said, ‘Receive the Holy Spirit.’”

About the Holy Spirit being wind Jesus said, “That which is born of the flesh is flesh, and that which is born of the Spirit is spirit… The wind blows where it wishes, and you hear the sound of it, but cannot tell where it comes from and where it goes. So is everyone who is born of the Spirit.” (John 3:6-8)

I bring all of this out to say that the church’s power isn’t in its affiliations; rather it’s in its prayers for God’s intervention. We need Holy Spirit inspired and directed prayer.

“The Spirit helps us in our weakness. We do not know what we ought to pray for, but the Spirit himself intercedes for us with groans that words cannot express.” (Romans 8:26)
