How Great Is God’s Love?
September 8, 2026

Thought for Today: “How Great Is God’s Love?”

Jesus said, “I am the good shepherd. The good shepherd lays down his life for the sheep.” (John 10:11)

Jesus uses the analogy that our relationship with Him is like that of a Shepherd, and we are the sheep of His pasture, that is, under His care.

Now, shepherds are known to guide and tend to their sheep with great care and compassion. If one wanders away, they go and bring it back. But here is where the comparison ends. If we owned the sheep and sent our son to care for them, would we tell him that if a predator came, he should stand between it and the sheep and die for them?

That’s not reasonable, because there’s a big difference between the life of a person and that of a sheep.

This makes God’s love for us even more remarkable. Although there is a vast difference between a human and a sheep, the difference between God and humanity is infinite. For Jesus to lay down His life for us is incomprehensible. Yet that is exactly what He did.

“This is love: not that we loved God, but that He loved us and sent His Son as an atoning sacrifice for our sins.” (1 John 4:10)

Therefore, how great is God’s love for us? It’s incomprehensible and goes beyond human logic. It’s incredible and indescribable.
