Thought for Today: “How Great Is God’s Love?”
Jesus said, “I am the good shepherd. The good shepherd lays down his life for the sheep.” (John 10:11)
Jesus uses the analogy that our relationship with Him is one of a Shepherd, and we are the sheep of His pasture, that is, under His care.
Now, shepherds are known to guide and tend to their sheep with great care and compassion. And if one wanders away, to go and bring it back. But here is where the comparison ends. If we were the owner of the sheep, and we sent our son to care for them, would we inform him that if a predator came, to stand between it and the sheep and die for them.
That’s not reasonable, because a there’s a big difference between the life of person and that of a sheep.
This makes God’s love for us even more remarkable. While there is a huge difference between a human and a sheep, the difference between God and humanity is infinite. And so, for Jesus to lay down His life for us is incomprehensible. Yet, that is exactly what He did.
Therefore, how great is God’s love for us? It’s incomprehensible and goes beyond human logic. Therefore, it is incredible and indescribable.
That’s how great God’s love is.
