Thought For Today: “Holiness Isn’t About Rules”
Holiness doesn’t begin with a set of rules and regulations; rather, it begins with the Lord. God is holy and calls us to be holy, that is, separate from sin.
“But as He who called you is holy, you also be holy in all your conduct, because it is written, ‘Be holy, for I am holy.’” (1 Peter 1:15-16)
God has called us to a holy life, and this call is rooted in Him. Some people live their lives based on cultural holiness; that is, they adapt their character and behavior to the culture and society around them.
When we conform to our culture and society rather than to God and His word, we become less holy in God’s eyes. God hasn’t called us to be like others; rather, He’s called us to be like Him. Therefore, holiness is our conformity to the character of God, who is holy, pure, and separate from sin.
