Going Home
When someone dies we say they “passed away,” but that isn’t true for those who place their hope and trust in Jesus Christ. They haven’t passed away; instead they went home!
Believers in Jesus Christ don’t cease to exist; rather they go from this life into eternal life, from this existence on earth to an everlasting existence in heaven.
Heaven is every believer’s life end. It’s the goal every believer presses toward. This was the Apostle Paul’s goal.
“I press on toward the goal to win the prize for which God has called me heavenward in Christ Jesus … For our citizenship is in heaven, from which we also eagerly wait for the Savior, the Lord Jesus Christ, who will transform our lowly body that it may be conformed to His glorious body.” (Philippians 3:14, 20-21a)
Earlier in his letter to the Philippian church he said,
“For to me, to live is Christ, and to die is gain … For I am hard pressed between the two, having a desire to depart and be with Christ, which is far better.” (Philippians 1:21, 23)
Heaven is the home where the human heart longs to be, and the place that’s dear to every believer.
Why is it so dear? It’s the place where all sorrow and pain are gone. Heaven is often referred to as the land of no mores. Talking about heaven and what he saw, the Apostle John said,
“And God will wipe away every tear from their eyes; there shall be no more death, nor sorrow, nor crying. There shall be no more pain, for the former things have passed away.” (Revelation 21:4)
Heaven is a place of eternal joy and peace, and it isn’t some dream but it is a settled reality.
It’s only in heaven that we will find what our hearts truly long for, and that is the place where the Lord dwells, the place where we truly belong, the place called home, the place called heaven.
