Handling Disappointments

Thought for Today: “Handling Disappointments”

Jesus’s statement offended many who followed and were listening. And it says that many disciples left never to return. Jesus then asked His 12 disciples if they also wanted to leave. Peter said, “Lord, to whom shall we go? You have the words of eternal life. Also, we have come to believe and know that You are the Christ, the Son of the living God.” (John 6:68-69)

As Peter and the other disciples watched other followers become offended and walk away, Jesus interrupted their thoughts and asked if they would also leave. Can you imagine the thoughts running through their minds, not only at what they saw, but now at what they were challenged with.

Moved by the Holy Spirit, Peter replied for the rest of them. He acknowledges their faith in Jesus that He was the Son of God, the Messiah, and that no one else had the words of eternal life.

Jesus, who is the way, the truth, and the life, has what we need the most, so where else can we go?

I remember God asking me the same question when everything was taken away. And I remember answering the same as Peter.

The truth is that if we live long enough in this world, we will experience disappointments and setbacks. Others will leave, but will we remain faithful?

As a disciples of Jesus, let’s not turn away from Him when times get tough, or when we don’t understand. Instead, let’s run to Him. He will lead us by giving us the grace, wisdom, and strength we need.
