Thought For Today: “God’s Work Never Stops”
John Wesley said, “God buries His workmen, but carries on His work.” WOW
It says of King David that after he served God’s purposes for his generation he died (Acts 13:36).
God has a great work for all of us to do, and when we’re finished, He takes us home to be with Him. But His work doesn’t end with our death, but continues through others, because nothing can stop God’s plans and purposes.
It is called a legacy, which is what David left behind for his son, Solomon.
Knowing God’s will, and that while David wanted to build a house for the Lord, the Lord raised up his son, Solomon for this task.
The first thing David left behind for Solomon was spiritual advice. He said, “Be strong and of good courage, and do it; do not fear nor be dismayed, for the Lord God–my God–will be with you. He will not leave you nor forsake you, until you have finished all the work for the service of the house of the Lord.” (1 Chronicles 28:20)
And then He left Solomon everything that he needed to build God’s house. In 1 Chronicles 28 it says that he left Solomon the plans (vs. 11), division of labor and all the articles needed for worship (vs. 13), and the finances to accomplish the task (vs. 14-18).
God’s promise is that He will help us fulfill His purpose here upon the earth, and once that’s done, He’ll take us home to be with Him, and continue His work through another.
Therefore, we need to faithfully fulfill God’s calling on our lives, our legacy, and when this life is over, He’ll raise up another.
