Thought for Today: “God’s Want Ad”
Years ago, a poster had Uncle Sam pointing saying, “I Want You for the U.S. Army.”
I think God’s “Want Ad” would go something like this, “Wanted: Men and Women of faith willing to pick up the cross and live the cross life.”
When reading the morning paper was the way we got the news, I remember scanning the want ad section just to see what people needed. Some of it was for products, but most of it was about people looking for jobs, or businesses that were looking to hire.
This brought to mind the vision that Isaiah had of the Lord God. In this vision, he saw the Lord and was completely undone saying that he was unclean in the presence of the Almighty God.
But then one of the seraphim took a coal from off the heavenly altar and touched Isaiah’s lips saying his sin and inequity were forgiven. And then the Lord said what I am calling God’s want ad.
He said, “Whom shall I send, and who will go for Us?’” And Isaiah responded saying, “Here am I! Send me.” (Isaiah 6:8)
When we come to believe in Jesus as our Savior and Lord, our sins are forgiven and God puts this same want ad out to us, which is known as the Great Commission.
Jesus said, “If anyone desires to come after Me, let him deny himself, and take up his cross daily, and follow Me.” (Luke 9:23)
