Thought For Today: “God’s Usurper”
The sin nature of “self,” is in direct contention with God, and it is like Satan who said in his heart, “I will ascend into heaven, I will exalt my throne above the stars of God … I will be like the Most High.” (Isaiah 14:13-14)
This is self’s desire to usurp God and dethrone Him as sovereign over our lives.
We see this back with the children of Israel as they no longer wanted God to rule over them, but rather they wanted a human king like the nations around them (1 Samuel 8).
We even see this in what the Apostle James said of the people’s judgment of others.
“Anyone who speaks against a brother or sister or judges them speaks against the law and judges it. When you judge the law, you are not keeping it, but sitting in judgment on it. There is only one Lawgiver and Judge, the one who is able to save and destroy.” (James 4:11-12)
To counter this desire to be ruler over our lives, we must put to death the old man, the old self, so that God can set up residency inside our hearts. We must place Jesus where He belongs, upon the throne of our hearts.
